This Social Studies Course is planned to help students familiarize themselves with Section A of the CSEC Social Studies Syllabus. The Individual and the Family and the Individual and Society are the first two themes covered in the syllabus. Social Studies aims to develop skills, identify values, foster attitudes and establish knowledge and understanding that will enable the student to understand themselves as unique individuals and also encourage them to appreciate their family and recognize the role it plays in their lives. Students will be able to identify the role that social groups hold in our society. Students will be able to make better informed and wise decisions that will contribute to mold active, successful and productive citizens. Major topics to be covered include the individual, dating and marriage, family and changes in the family. These topics will equip students with the necessary tools to aid in the development of positive functioning individuals with a high self-esteem and self-respect.
